PROFILE OF THE WEEK (Feb. 2, 2011)
SENIOR (2011): Two-time NJAC Pitcher of the Week (3/27/11 & 4/3/11) who notched a team-high 64 strikeouts for the 23-19 Scarlet Raiders who shared the ECAC Metro Championship…broke his own R-N record with 11 pickoffs in a season… posted a 4-7 record with a 4.85 ERA with two complete games and a save… tied for second on staff with 72-1/3 innings on the mound… shut down TCNJ (4/9/11) in a 3-1 win, yielding just one run on four hits while striking out eight in eight full innings to start an NJAC doubleheader sweep… posted a complete-game shutout of Stevens (3/25/11), striking out a dozen while yielding a lone single and four walks in a 6-0 Raider win… blanked New Jersey City (4/2/11), going the full nine innings in a 10-0 decision while striking out six against four hits and three walks… went six innings while yielding two runs on six hits to get the victory in a 16-7 win over William Paterson (4/29/11)… got a save in an inning of shutout relief in a 10-8 win over DeSales (4/20/11), striking out two against a single.
JUNIOR (2010): Set R-N records with 72 strikeouts and eight pickoffs… Led R-N staff in earned run average (3.88), innings pitched (69.2) and starts (11)… All-NJAC Honorable Mention and two-time NJAC Pitcher of the Week… third team All-NJCBA… posted three key NJAC wins to help Raiders into the conference tournament… blanked TCNJ (4/24) for 8.2 innings on seven singles while striking out three and walking four in a 4-0 Raider victory… struck out 13 while allowing just six hits and two runs in seven innings in a heart-breaking 2-1 loss to Scranton (3/27)… struck out 11, walked three and yielded just six hits and two earned runs in seven innings in a 16-4 win over Ithaca (3/15) in California… struck out six, walked three and gave up four hits and one earned run in seven innings to get a 5-4 win over Kean (4/10)… struck out five, walked two and gave up six hits in seven scoreless innings for the win in an 8-5 win over William Paterson (4/29).
SOPHOMORE (2009): Started in eight games, posting a 2-4 record with an ERA of 7.71… 37-1/3 innings was the third highest total on the Raider staff… deadly pickoff move caught a team-high four runners… suffered a hard-luck 2-1 loss to TCNJ (3/28), going seven innings while striking out three, walking two and allowing just six hits… posted an 8-7 win over highly-regarded Cal Lutheran (3/21), pitching five innings while allowing five hits and five walks against two strikeouts… picked up second win with a pre-planned three-inning stint in a 12-1 decision over John Jay (4/14), allowing no runs and no hits while striking out one and walking three.
FRESHMAN (2008): Workhorse rookie who posted 46-1/3 innings which was the most by a first-year hurler and third overall on the squad… led the team with 30 strikeouts, averaging 5.8 strike outs per nine innings… went 1-5 while starting seven of the nine games in which he appeared… hurled a 5-hit, 8-strikeout, 7-inning, 11-1 win over highly-regarded Eastern Connecticut (3/15) during the Raiders’ California Spring trip… lost a complete-game, 3-0 decision to Richard Stockton (4/13), striking out two and walking three while yielding nine hits… closed the season with a solid 7-1/3 inning start against Ramapo (4/26) in a 6-2 loss, giving up just two earned runs while striking out three and walking four.
HIGH SCHOOL: Three year varsity performer at first base and on the mound for head coach Jeff Karpell… named Pitcher of the Year at Shore in his sophomore and senior years… Named captain in 2007… led team to a 15-9 mark and helped the Blue Devils advance to the semifinals of the Monmouth County Tournament… First Team All-Shore Division selection… was named team’s MVP… selected to play in the Shore’s Senior All-Star Classic at Lakewood Blueclaws’ First Energy Park.
PERSONAL: Son of Keith and Eileen Cerruti…aunt, Pam Cerruti, played basketball at Seton Hall (1974-78) and is in top 20 in career steals and assists… political science major.
