SPRINGFIELD, MA – Sophomore outside hitter Marcin Midura posted a match-high 23 kills as Rutgers-Newark bounced back for a 3-1 win over Springfield in Blake Arena. Set scores were 21-30, 31-29, 30-27, 30-24.

After losing the opening set, the Scarlet Raiders (12-11) survived set point at 29-28 before a Springfield service error gave them a new lease on life. Junior setter Jeff Zornig teamed first with senior middle hitter Jon Keller and then freshman Brett Pickens for back-to-back blocks to bring Rutgers-Newark even after two frames.

The Raiders hit .370 in the third set and .353 in the fourth to take their 11th win in the last 13 matches.

Freshman middle hitter Mark Kochan hit .611 with a dozen kills and just one mistake in 18 swings. Sophomore outside hitter Eduardo Hernandez had 11 kills and an ace while junior right side Dane Mulligan added 10 kills and an ace plus 10 digs to give the Raiders four player in double-figure kills.

Zornig stoked the attack with 55 assists and added two aces and eight assisted blocks.

Rutgers-Newark hosts Sacred Heart on Monday at 7 p.m. in The Golden Dome in their final EIVA Hay match of the season. The Raiders (EIVA Hay 7-0) clinched the division title on Friday with a 3-0 win over Harvard.
