WAYNE, NJ – Rutgers-Newark dropped only the sixth-flight singles contest on its way to an 8-1 New Jersey Athletic Conference victory over William Paterson on the WPU Tennis Courts.

The Scarlet Raiders (3-4, NJAC 1-3) posted their first NJAC win of the season in dropping the Pioneers (3-2, NJAC 0-2).

Freshman Bushra Memon and sophomore Ashley Lawrence did not drop a singles game in a pair of 6-0, 6-0 sweeps at the top of the singles ladder.

Freshman Michelle Kvitnitsky stopped Delnaz Shalforoosh, 6-1, 6-3 on the third flight while classmate Agnes Bangayan rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 win on the No. 4 court. Rookie Dhaneya Kumar notched a 6-2, 6-3 win over Maris Ferreira at the fifth flight.

Rutgers-Newark swept doubles play.

Rutgers-Newark is at Kean University on Tuesday at 5 p.m. for another NJAC showdown.
