NEWARK, NJ – Rutgers-Newark leveled its record at 1-1 with an 8-1 home opening victory over John Jay on The Golden Dome Courts.

On a hot, sunny, windy afternoon, the Scarlet Raiders took all three doubles matches and the top five singles contests without dropping a set to the Bloodhounds (0-2).

Rookies Bushra Memon, Michelle Kvitnitsky, Agnes Bangayan and Dhaneya Kumar claimed their first career singles victories. 

Sophomore Ashley Lawrence posted a 6-0, 6-0 win on the No. 2 singles court and teamed with Kvitnitsky to blank their doubles opponents, 8-0, on the second flight court.

The Raiders travel to Hoboken to take on highly-regarded Stevens at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
