Kean University (31-7, NJAC 14-4) stopped Ramapo (29-9, NJAC 11-7), 6-5, in Mahwah to seize the top seed in the six-team, double-elimination playoff ahead of Rowan University (17-9, 1, NJAC 14-4).
The Cougar win resulted in a three-way tie for third with Rutgers-Newark, Ramapo and The College of New Jersey. The Raiders, who swept TCNJ and split their two games against Ramapo during the regular season, gained the third seed and home field advantage against the fourth-seeded Roadrunners.
TCNJ visits Rowan while Montclair State is at Kean in the other opening round games. Second round games will be played on Thursday at the site of the higher seed.
This is the second consecutive year that the Scarlet Raiders enter the tournament as the third seed.
