Armstrong shaved over seven seconds off the Scarlet Raider mark in the 1000 with a time of 2:40.64 to finish 37th in a highly-competitive field of 55. He erased
DaQuan Bashir's 2:48.06 record set in the Metro Coaches Invitational on the same track on January 7, 2011.
Competing in his first collegiate meet, Almeida got off a best effort of 11.91 meters to finish 13th among 30 competitors and eclipse R-N mark of 11.69 meters set by classmate
Nick DeRosa in the CTC Relays on December 4. DeRosa had a best throw of 11.55 meters today.
In the 60-meter dash, freshman
Dennis Willis, Jr. ran a 7.31-second time while junior
Kevon Brown clocked a 7.43 to finish just ahead of rookie
Mustafa Lawrence (7.47). The Raider trio finished 51st, 68th and 70th in a field of 90.
In the 400-meter dash, freshman
Donnie House clocked a 51.27-second time to finish 32nd in a field of 90 runners and top a trio of Raider runners. Armstrong (53.80) and freshman
Michael Agyei (54.43) also competed.
Senior
Vladimir Manasse ran a 4:53.36 mile and a 2:11.91 800-meters.
In the 4 x 400-meter relay, House, Manasse, Agyei and Armstrong clocked a 3:30.94 to finish 17th among 29 teams.
Brown collided with the fourth hurdle and did not finish his specialty – the 60-meter hurdles.
Rutgers-Newark will compete in the Collegeville Classic at Ursinus College on Friday.
