NEWARK, NJ – After sweeping doubles play, Rutgers-Newark won just one singles contest in a 5-4 loss to Hunter College on The Golden Dome Courts.

Rutgers-Newark freshman Michelle Nagamine downed sophomore Stephanie Ahwireng 6-0, 6-4, on the No. 4 court but the Hawks (3-2) claimed the other five matches in straight sets to upend the Scarlet Raiders (3-6) who lost to a CUNY Athletic Conference team for the first time in four outings this fall.

In doubles, junior Michelle Kvitnitsky and sophomore Yara Elsekhely defeated Shena Joseph and Gina Yeo, 8-6 on the No. 1 court.  Nagamine and junior Dhaneya Kumar earned an 8-4 win on the second flight over Ahwireng and Angelina Usherenko.  Sophomore Maggie Tchorzewska and freshman Enajee Bolden stopped Sara Beck and Dana Dotta, 8-4, on the No. 3 court.

Rutgers-Newark hosts another CUNYAC team, John Jay College, on The Golden Dome Courts on Thursday at 5 p.m.
