Scarlet Raiders Post 8-1 Win Over John Jay

NEWARK, NJ – Rutgers-Newark overpowered John Jay, 8-1, in a non-conference match on The Golden Dome Courts.

The Scarlet Raiders (4-6) won for the second time in their last three outings while upending a CUNY Athletic Conference team for the third time in four tries this season.  The Bloodhounds slipped to 0-7-1.

Junior Michelle Kvitnitsky took a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Armine Kurkjian in top-flight singles while junior Dhaneya Kumar did not drop a game in sweeping Ashley Marrero on the No. 2 court.

Sophomore Yara Elsekhely stopped Lauren Mallon, 6-3, 6-2 on the third flight while freshman Angela Ho took a 6-0, 6-0 decision on the No. 6 court.

Freshman Elizaveta Reynolds claimed her first collegiate wins, taking the fifth-flight singles with a 7-5, 6-3 decision over Denis Batista after teaming with freshman Maria Nunes for an 8-3 doubles victory over Lissette Caravantes and Lilian Calix pm the No. 3 court.

The Raiders swept double play with Kvitnitsky and Elsekhely battling to an 8-6 win on the No. 1 court.  Kumar and sophomore Maggie Tchorzewska rolled to an 8-0 win on the second flight.

Rutgers-Newark completes its New Jersey Athletic Conference slate with a noon match at William Paterson on Saturday.
