WHITTIER, CA – Rutgers-Newark could not hold onto an early 3-0 lead against Ithaca, falling 6-3 in Memorial Stadium on the campus of Whittier College.

The Scarlet Raiders (2-8) got a two-out, two-run single from senior leftfielder Matt Larangera in the first inning and a sacrifice fly from junior first baseman Vin Troisi to seize the early lead, but Bomber sophomore right-hander Jimmy Wagner settled down to limit Rutgers-Newark to just two hits over the next four innings.

Junior second baseman Tim Henry paced the Ithaca attack by going three for four with a pair of RBI as the Bombers piled up 11 hits against junior starter Michael Garcia (2-1) and Jonathan Dominguez.

Troisi walked and junior shortstop Kevin Olah singled to open the bottom of the ninth for the Raiders, but junior closer David Jasukonis got out of the jam to earn a save.

Rutgers-Newark, which lost its sixth straight decision, visits the University of Redlands on Tuesday for a 2:30 p.m. game.
