LOS ANGELES, CA – Junior shortstop
Kevin Olah homered in his first two times as the plate to help Rutgers-Newark to an 8-2 win over Occidental in the opening game of a doubleheader on Anderson Field. The Tigers rebounded for a 4-1 win in game two.
IN GAME ONE, Olah, who added a single and scored to start a two-run rally in the sixth, finished three for three with three runs and three RBI as the Scarlet Raiders (5-11) won their third straight game and downed the Tigers (16-7) for the second straight day following yesterday's monumental 23-inning 8-5 victory. He blasted a solo shot to left field in the first and delivered the game-winning two-run blast to right center in the third.
Freshman designated hitter
Cameron Dias ripped a two-run double to cap the sixth-inning outburst and give the Raiders a 5-1 lead.
Sophomore first baseman
Graham Commesso delivered a two-run double down the left field line in the top of the seventh to end the scoring.
Senior
Tyler Kwiatek (1-0) got the win by going five full innings before turning over the game to
Ryan Staub and
Chris Nichols who each hurled an inning of shutout relief. Kwiatek scattered four hits while striking out three and walking four in the seven inning contest.
IN GAME TWO, Tiger sophomore right-hander Joseph Kling (2-1) limited the Raiders to five hits in a complete-game effort. He struck out just one and walked two while carrying a shutout bid into the sixth inning.
Freshman centerfielder Ryan Macfarlane produced the lone Raider run by leading off the sixth with a double to left center field, moved to third on a grounder to second by Olah and scored on a balk with two outs.

Junior right-hander
Jonathan Dominguez (0-4) took the loss, yielding four runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking four in 5-1/3 innings.
Billy Taylor and
Mark Bruscino blanked Occidental without giving up a hit over the final 2-2/3 innings. Taylor came on to get the Raiders out of a jam in the sixth with runners on second and third and just one away.
Rutgers-Newark, which went 3-5 on their annual spring break trip to the west coast, plays at Keystone, 13-5 and ranked 14th in last week's D3Baseball.com Top 25 poll, on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
The Raiders host Montclair State in a doubleheader to open their New Jersey Athletic Conference slate on Saturday at noon in Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium.
