Box Score 2 GLASSBORO, NJ – Rutgers University-Newark ended up on the short end of a slugfest at No. 13 Rowan University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader. The Profs won 10-6 and 23-7 on the Rowan Baseball Field.
IN GAME ONE, the Scarlet Raiders (9-19, NJAC 3-7) battled back from a 10-0 hole with six runs in the last two innings against Rowan (18-6, NJAC 7-3).
Freshman outfielder
Nick Striglia came off the bench to lead the surge with an RBI single to cap the 2-run eighth and a 2-out, 2-run double down the left field line to finish the 4-run outburst in the ninth.
Sophomore shortstop
Ryan MacFarlane was the only other Raider with two hits in Rutgers-Newark's 11-hit attack.
Sophomore righthander
Chris Nichols (1-3) took the loss, giving up nine runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out three in 5-1/3 innings.
IN GAME TWO, Rutgers-Newark piled up 14 hits but Rowan responded with 22 in a game that saw 10 pitchers used by the teams.
Senior rightfielder
Jimmy Napolitano belted a 3-run home run to left field to highlight a 6-run outburst by the Raiders only to see the Profs add seven runs in their half of the inning. Napolitano when two for four and scored twice.
Senior first baseman
Vin Troisi, sophomore outfielder
Cameron Dias and senior catcher
Steve Tamayo each went three for five with an RBI for the Raiders.
Junior first baseman Rich Powelson went five for five with three RBIs and three runs scored to lead the Rowan explosion.
Rutgers-Newark hosts Alvernia in a non-conference game in Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium on Tuesday at 2 o'clock before reentering NJAC play against Ramapo College on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in Newark.
