Box Score NEWARK, NJ – Sophomore
Gerry Patrizio delivered the game-winning hit in the fifth and the Rutgers University-Newark bullpen blanked Misericordia over the final three innings for a 7-5 win in Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium.
Patrizio, the regular second baseman who went two for three in his first start at third base, delivered a 2-run single to right field to cap a 3-run outburst which gave the Scarlet Raiders (13-20) a 7-4 lead. Consecutive singles by junior centerfielder
Jason McCluskey, freshman designated hitter
Chas Bohannon and rookie catcher
Josh Cote plated the first run in the fifth inning rally before a walk by freshman second baseman
Jeff Reinecke set the table for Patrizio's clutch hit.
Reinecke knotted the score at 4-4 with his first career home run in the fourth inning.
Sophomore shortstop
Ryan MacFarlane set off a 3-run Raider rally in the second inning with a 2-run single to right field.
Freshman
Rafael Totesautt, Bohannon and MacFarlane each hurled an inning of shutout relief to make a winning out of senior reliever
Ryan Staub (2-1) who went two full innings. Staub allowed a run on a wild pitch in the sixth inning, yielding a double and two walks. MacFarlane picked up his second save by sending the Cougars down in order in the ninth.
Four unearned runs and four walks shortened the day of Raider starter
Billy Taylor. He allowed just one hit, but that was a bases-clearing 2-out double by freshman shortstop Kyle Seawards in the third which staked Misericordia to a 4-3 lead. In the first inning, a run scored on an errant throw of a steal of third base. Taylor struck out six.
