WAYNE, NJ – Rutgers University-Newark freshman Danielle Merritt battled to a 3-set singles victory, but William Paterson posted an 8-1 New Jersey Athletic Conference win on the WPU Tennis Courts.

Merritt stopped Jessica Daniels, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 11-9, on the No. 2 court for the Scarlet Raiders (0-5, NJAC 0-3), but the Pioneers (1-2, NJAC 1-1) took straight set decisions in the other singles courts after sweeping doubles play.
 
Raider senior Racquel Asante pushed Caitlin Pariso to a first-set tie-breaker before falling 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.
 
Rutgers-Newark is at Richard Stockton on Wednesday for a 4 o'clock NJAC match before travelling to Brooklyn College on Friday for a non-conference contest.
