BROOKLYN, NY – Senior
Racquel Asante had a hand in both Rutgers University-Newark wins but Brooklyn College took a 7-2 decision on the Roosevelt Courts.
Box Score Asante, a walk-on player in her first year of collegiate tennis, earned her first victories in singles and doubles for the Scarlet Raiders (0-7) while the Bulldogs (3-1) won their second straight dual match.
Asante teamed with freshman
Nandini Gami to roll to an 8-1 win over freshmen Anastasia Volovik and Fatma Serageldin on the No. 3 doubles court.
In singles play, Asante swept past sophomore Lauren Marino, 6-0, 6-1, on the No. 6 court.
Raider senior
Yara Elsekhely fell, 6-3, 6-3, to sophomore Diana Beshta in No. 4 singles in the most competitive match outside of Asante's win.
Freshmen
Catherine Popow and
Danielle Merritt battled but lost an 8-5 decision on the second doubles flight.
Rutgers-Newark hosts three matches on The Golden Dome Courts next week starting with a 5 p.m. contest with Hunter on Monday. New Jersey Athletic Conference tests against Kean on Wednesday at 6 p.m. and perennial league champion The College of New Jersey on Thursday at 4 follow.
