Box Score NEWARK, N.J. -- Senior right-hander Jonathan Dominguez (Newark, NJ/East Side) pitched the game of his life, firing a one-hit complete game shutout, striking out 13 and walking none, leading Rutgers-Newark to a 10-0 win over John Jay Tuesday afternoon at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium.

The victory enabled the Scarlet Raiders to improve to 5-7 on the season and allowed Dominguez to improve his seasonal mark to 1-1. The local product missed most of last season with a broken hand. John Jay dropped to 0-4.

Dominguez was totally dominant down the stretch, fanning seven of the last nine batters he faced. He had 11 strikeouts over his final five innings of work and at one point retired 18 straight batters before hitting Brian Garcia with a pitch in the eighth inning. The lone John Jay hit was a single by Noel Sanchez in the second inning.

The Scarlet Raiders got all the runs they would need in the second inning. Sophomore left fielder Josh Cote (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) singled, stole second and after sophomore designated hitter Brian Kokos (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) walked, junior second baseman Gerry Patrizio (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) had an RBI single, scoring Cote and Kokos came around to score on a passed ball for the second run of the inning.

Kokos delivered an RBI double in the fourth inning to push the lead to 3-0 and drew a bases loaded walk in the fifth that gave the Scarlet Raiders a 4-0 lead.

The Scarlet Raiders then broke the game wide open, scoring four runs in the sixth inning and two more in the ninth.

Cote and freshman catcher Justin Marks (South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) had RBI singles in the sixth inning. Sophomore first baseman Chas Bohannon (Springfield, NJ/Jonathan Dayton) and senior shortstop Ryan MacFarlane each delivered an RBI double in the ninth inning to close out the scoring.

On the game, Kokos had two RBI, while Bohannon, MacFarlane, Cote and Marks all had two hits and an RBI. The Scarlet Raiders banged out 13 hits against four different John Jay hurlers. Senior third baseman Nick Gencarelli (Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock) had two hits and scored three runs, reaching base in all five of his unofficial at-bats. Gencarelli was hit by a pitch and walked during the game.

The Scarlet Raiders return to action at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. when they play host to Baruch.
