NEWARK, N.J. (February 23, 2016) – Senior forward
Jordan McDaniel of the Rutgers University-Newark men's basketball team was named to the D3Hoops.com National Team of the Week in addition to being named the Division III Player of the Week by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association.
Â
McDaniel averaged 31 points and eight rebounds as Rutgers-Newark went 2-0 last week, earning a 95-94 double overtime win over Ramapo in the regular-season finale and a 78-52 rout of William Paterson in the first round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament Championship.
Â
McDaniel poured in a career- and NJAC-season-high 44 points on 15-of-23 shooting, including 4-for-9 from three-point range and 10-for-12 at the line in the win over Ramapo. He added 10 rebounds for a double-double and his driving layup with four seconds left in the second overtime proved to be the game-winner.
Â
He then scored a game-high 18 points vs. Paterson, adding six rebounds.
Â
McDaniel posted 62 points in all, needing just 37 total shots to do it. He went 6-for-13 from 3-point range (46 percent), 12-for-15 at the line (80 percent) and shot 59 percent from the field (22-for-37).Â
Â
The Colonia, N.J. native is second in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) in scoring, averaging 21.2 points per game and is fifth in rebounding at 7.0 boards per game. He is fourth in field-goal percentage (53.6 percent), eighth in three-point field-goal percentage (39.8 percent) and fourth in blocked shots (28).
Â
McDaniel's 44 point performance is the second 40-plus point total for a Rutgers-Newark player this year as classmate
John Snow dropped 42 in a win at Rowan University in January. Snow was named the NJAC Player of the Week and Met Basketball Writers Association Player of the Week after that performance.
Â
Next up for the Scarlet Raiders will be the NJAC semis as third-seeded Rutgers-Newark (20-6 overall, 14-4 NJAC) travels to second-seeded Stockton University (19-6 overall, 14-4 NJAC) Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
