NEWARK, N.J. (April 10, 2017) – Junior
Anthony Perconte of the Rutgers University-Newark baseball team was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Player of the Week, it was announced Monday afternoon by the league office.

Perconte helped Rutgers-Newark to a perfect 5-0 week as the Scarlet Raiders improved to a sparkling 15-5 overall and 4-2 in the conference.

The Westfield native hit .611 in five starts, slugging .778 and getting on base at a .640 clip. The third-year outfielder stole four bases in five tries, totaled 11 hits in 18 at-bats and drove in seven runs. He worked three walks and was hit by two pitches, tallying two hits or more in 4-of-5 games. Perconte also scored nine runs for the Scarlet Raiders, crossing the plate at least once in each game and scoring multiple times in three.

He started the week with a 3-for-4, three-run performance against Drew in a non-conference win, and proceeded to go 4-for-7 with four runs scored and three RBI in a sweep at league rival Rutgers University-Camden on Saturday. On Sunday, the outfielder went 4-for-7 with four RBI and two runs scored at New Jersey City University.

Perconte is hitting a lofty .423 through 20 games, totaling 30 hits, 27 RBI and 27 runs scored. He is slugging .563 and getting on base at a .517 clip which makes for a ridiculous 1.080 OPS (on-base plus slugging) through half the schedule.

Rutgers-Newark returns to the diamond against nationally-ranked Alvernia University Tuesday and Wednesday with a non-conference home-and-home series. R-N will travel to Reading, Pa. April 11 before welcoming the Crusaders to Riverfront Stadium April 12. Both games will start at 3:30 p.m.
