POMONA, Calif. (March 9, 2018) – The Rutgers University-Newark baseball team suffered a 12-5 defeat at the hands of Pomona-Pitzer to open the Scarlet Raiders' 2018 Spring Break trip.
Â
Despite four hits in five trips from veteran

Rutgers-Newark falls to 3-3 on the season, while Pomona-Pitzer moves to 11-4 with the win.
Â
The Scarlet Raiders were originally slated to play Cal-Lutheran Saturday, but due to rain, the two sides have moved that game to Monday. R-N will now look ahead to Sunday's matchup at Occidental College.
Â
It was Tricarico getting the game's scoring underway, roping a double to plate senior
Brian Boulineau with the game's first run in the top half of the first inning.
Â
The Sage Hens responded with four runs in the first and three more in the second to open a 7-1 lead and remained in front the rest of the way.
Â
Newark sliced two runs off the lead thanks to Tricarico driving in Boulineau, and junior
Luke Magliaro plating brother
Dominic Magliaro in the third.
Â
Despite an eight-run deficit after four, Rutgers-Newark continued to put together solid at-bats and Tricarico drove home single tallies in the fifth and eighth to make it an 11-5 game. The Scarlet Raiders even loaded the bases with one out in the top of the ninth, but Pomona-Pitzer did what it needed to secure the win.
