Rutgers University-Newark Honors Four At 2020 Hall of Fame

NEWARK, NJ | Rutgers University-Newark honored four individuals this evening as part of the 2020 Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony held at 15 Washington in Newark, NJ. Sabrina Sanchez, Eric Honsberger, Monica Liotto and Mercedes Glover were the honorees that spanned 10 years of service as student-athletes.

The Rutgers University-Newark Hall of Fame event happens every two years and acts as a chance for many to reminisce and share their stories of how they excelled that came to define the honorees and their storied time while playing at the University. Mark Griffin, Director of Athletics opened up the evening with congratulatory marks and the importance of connecting with alumni.

Sanchez was first to the stage as she was one of the most prolific shooters in Rutgers University-Newark's history. A two-time NJAC All-Conference second team student-athlete, she finished her career top-10 in three categories (points, steals, field goals made).

Next up was Honsberger from the men's volleyball program. Honsberger was a part of the men's volleyball team when it was still an NCAA Division I program. During his tenure, he made EIVA All-Conference second team twice which is why his name is so frequent in the record books.

Softball slugger Liotto, dominated the diamond from 2010-13, was next to the stage. National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-Eastern Region member in 2013, Liotto left opposing pitchers with nightmares after she hit .347 for her career. The record-setting third baseman/catcher, was also named to NJAC All-Conference second team.

Capping the evening was three-time All-American, Mercedes Glover. Glover is the most decorated track & field athlete Rutgers University-Newark has ever had. She was also named two-time Rutgers-Newark Female Athlete of the Year and finished second at Nationals in the Javelin.

The Hall of Fame once again proved to be a magical evening for all of the guests and honorees. The next Hall of Fame class will take place in 2022.
