NEWARK, NJ | The Rutgers-Newark baseball team split its New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) doubleheader today against The College of New Jersey, 8-4, 9-1. The split moved the Scarlet Raiders to 19-7, 3-3 while TCNJ moved to 12-13, 3-2.

Game 1: TCNJ 8, Rutgers-Newark 4

TCNJ tallied two runs across the opening two innings before the Scarlet Raiders responded in the bottom of the 4th. Gonzalez and Paul Recchia hit back-to-back singles to start the frame, allowing Rypkema to bat home Gonzalez with a single up the middle. The Scarlet Raiders had bases loaded with one out, however, the scoring ended with just one run as they hit into a double play.

The Lions extended their lead further in the 5th, plating four runs on five hits. Rutgers-Newark cut into the lead in the bottom of the 8th with a pair of runs by Weinbel and Gonzalez. The Scarlet Raiders added another run in the 9th but ran out of time as TCNJ took the opening game of the series, 8-4.
