EWING, NJ - The Rutgers-Newark men's and women's cross country programs competed at the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) at the TCNJ Green Lane Fields Saturday morning.
For the men, they were led by senior Adam Abushanab. He earned Second Team All-NJAC honors as he raced to a time of 25:55.5 for a 12th-place finish. He collected a split of 6:06.2 on the final go-round to move up one spot. He improved tremendously from his 32nd-place finish a year ago and decreased his 8k time by over two minutes.
Carlos Gonzales Delgado was second for the Raiders with a time of 31:29.5. Wascar Olivero knocked off 49 seconds from his season-best to record a time of 32:00.2. Rounding out the rest of the top five finishers were Daniel Cortez with a season-best time of 34:42.5 and Andrew Mark, also with a season-best time, finishing in 35:32.4.
The Raider men finished with 175 points for seventh place. Rowan won the men's crown with 25 points and all five racers finishing in the top eight.
On the women's side, it was soccer standout Karla Valencia that was the top finisher for Rutgers-Newark with a time of 28:01.1. Naina Patti clocked a time of 34:18.9 and Kristin Kloss registered a time of 34:19.1, as she crossed the finish line.
The Rutgers-Newark women did not have five women finish the race, thus did not qualify for a team score. The Rowan women won with 30 points and all racers in the top 20.
