Reccia & Fedorco Homer To Power Rutgers-Newark Past Saint Vincent

DAVENPORT, FL | The Scarlet Raiders baseball squad opened its Russ Matt Central Florida trip with an 8-5 win over Saint Vincent College Saturday morning. 

Rutgers-Newark (4-3) scattered 10 hits and hit three home runs in the win. Eric Recchia finished 3-for-5 with 3 RBIs, three runs, and two homers. Matthew Storch and Daniel Fedorco each added two hits with Fedorco adding the other homer and 3 RBIs. On the mound, Vince Taylor got the start and hurled five innings but it was Matthew King (2-0) who picked up the win with three strikeouts and no hits allowed. Saint Vincent (1-6) tallied 10 hits but also committed two errors. Perroz led the team alongside Disso with two hits while Lockwich tallied 2 RBIs.

The Scarlet Raiders got off to a strong start with three runs in the opening frame. Paul Recchia hit a triple down the right-field line before his brother, Eric Recchia hit an RBI single to center field to stamp the first run of the trip in the book. Storch followed up with a double before Robert Gonzalez hit an RBI single to the pitcher. Michael Weinbel then added the third tally with a sacrifice fly to score Eric Recchia from third. 

Eric Recchia solo homered in the second to increase their lead to 4-0. 

Saint Vincent wouldn't go quietly as they evened the game by scoring four runs throughout the 4th and 5th innings. Homers by Fedorco and Eric Recchia broke the deadlock and pushed Rutgers-Newark ahead 6-4. Fedorco, in the very next inning, would hit a 2 RBI single to left field to close the door on Saint Vincent. 

Rutgers-Newark returns to action on Sunday, March 10 when they take on Curry College at 12:30 pm.
