Rutgers-Newark Men's Volleyball Dominates Eastern Mennonite University in Four-Set Win

HARRISONBURG, Pa. -The Rutgers-Newark men's volleyball team put on a dominant performance, defeating Eastern Mennonite University (7-8, 4-1 ODAC) in four sets (25-20, 24-26, 25-17, 25-17) on Wednesday evening. The Scarlet Raiders secured wins in sets one, three, and four to claim the match.

Aleks Kolodziej was the standout for Rutgers-Newark, leading the charge with 21 kills and 10 digs. His offensive power was on full display as he helped his team push through a tight battle. 

Derek Au also turned in a stellar all-around performance, tallying 41 assists, 14 digs, three blocks, and four service aces. His play-making ability was crucial in keeping the Scarlet Raiders' offense flowing smoothly throughout the match.

Set one saw Rutgers-Newark and Eastern Mennonite trade points until midway through the set when the Scarlet Knights took over, closing it out with a 25-20 victory. Eastern Mennonite, however, bounced back in set two, taking a nail-biting 26-24 win after a late rally, tying the match at one set apiece.

The Scarlet Raiders (11-4, 1-1 CVC) regrouped in set three, with Michael Suarez lighting up the net to continue Rutgers-Newark's dominance at the net, while Au orchestrated the offense with precision. The team surged ahead and took the set 25-17, before closing the match with another 25-17 win in set four.

The Scarlet Raiders' victory improves their record as they look to carry this momentum into their upcoming matches.

Eastern Mennonite was led by Andre Mills who had 14 kills and a pair of service aces. They were held to a .120 hitting performance for the match.

Rutgers-Newark will look to build on this victory as they continue play in Harrisonburg and the Eastern Mennonite Tournament. Tomorrow the Scarlet Raiders play Randolph-Macon College at 10 a.m. and Trine University at 12 p.m.
