Auguste Takes Gold on Day One of NJAC Indoor Championships

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Rutgers-Newark women's indoor track and field team delivered a strong performance on the opening day of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships, highlighted by Shanil Auguste's gold-medal victory in the women's shot put.

Auguste led the way for the Scarlet Raiders, clinching the gold with an impressive season-best throw of 12.64 meters (41-05.75)  that topped the field. Her performance was a testament to her consistent excellence in the event this season. Teammate Oghenefejiro Akiri, also delivered a season-best performance, earning a third-place finish to secure a spot on the podium with a mark of 12.00 meters (34-09.50). The two athletes helped to establish Rutgers-Newark as a competitive force early in the championships.

Morgan Marckres raced to a time of 21:06.95 in the women's 5,000-meter race. Love Baker was the top finisher for Rutgers-Newark in the 60 meters with a time of 9.72.

With Day One in the books, the team is poised for continued success as the NJAC Indoor Track and Field Championships continues tomorrow at the Jane and David Ott Center in Philadelphia.
