The Chargers Storm Past the Scarlet Raiders

LANCASTER, PA | In a closely fought match, Lancaster Bible College (10-5) was able to overcome Rutgers-Newark (12-6) by a score of 3-1 (25-19, 20-25, 25-18, 25-20).

The match started out very evenly. No team was able to create any separation until the Chargers grabbed a 14-10 lead after an attacking error by Massimo Roco. The Scarlet Raiders rallied back to tie it, but the home team took their lead right back. After exchanging blows, the home team took five of the last six points to secure a set one victory.

Set two was all Rutgers-Newark. They jumped ahead 8-5 and stayed on top. The Chargers were never fully out of it, and they drew close at 14-12 after a kill from Carson Hoover. However, the freshman duo of Michael Suarez and Massimo Roco made sure that the Scarlet Raiders remained out of reach. Aleks Kolodziej secured the final kill to bring the set score even at one apiece.

However, Lancaster Bible College brought the heat in set number three. They took a commanding six point lead at 15-9, and they never looked back. They even went on a four point run to close it out with a final score of 25-18.

With their backs against the wall, Rutgers-Newark could not produce a strong start to the fourth set. The Chargers created a four point edge and the Scarlet Raiders could not close it down. The visitors got within three points right at the end, but it wasn't enough, and Lancaster Bible College took home the 3-1 win.

Men's volleyball is back in action tomorrow, March 1st. They will play in a tri-match against Stevenson and Purchase who they will play at 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM, respectively, right here in the Golden Dome.
