Rutgers-Newark Dominates Springfield College 16-6 at Russ Matt Invitational

DAVENPORT, Fla. - In a high-scoring affair at the Russ Matt Central Florida Invitational, Rutgers-Newark baseball cruised to a 16-6 victory over Springfield College. The Scarlet Raiders showcased their offensive firepower, collecting 15 hits and capitalizing on Springfield's three errors.

Rutgers-Newark set the tone early, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. However, Springfield responded swiftly in the bottom half, plating four runs to take a 4-3 advantage. The back-and-forth action continued in the second inning when the Scarlet Raiders tied the game at 4-4 on a single run.

The game took a decisive turn in the fourth inning as Rutgers-Newark exploded for six runs, seizing a commanding 10-4 lead. They added two more runs in the top of the fifth to further distance themselves. Springfield managed to score two runs in the sixth, but the deficit was too large to overcome.

The Scarlet Raiders sealed the win with another strong offensive showing in the seventh, adding four more runs to their total for a 16-6 final. Paul Recchia was the standout performer at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs scored and four RBI, leading the offensive charge.

On the mound, John Farmington earned the victory after 5.1 solid innings of work, allowing just two earned runs and striking out six. Brock Goodwin took the loss for Springfield, giving up seven earned runs in three innings of relief.

With the win, Rutgers-Newark improves to a strong showing in the tournament, demonstrating both offensive depth and pitching strength in their dominant win over Springfield.
