SB Space Coast Games day 4

Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Secures Second Win of the Season

MELBOURNE, FL | On day four of the Space Coast Spring Games, the Scarlet Raiders (2-6) picked up a 4-3 win over St. Norbert (1-9) before dropping a 2-13 loss to Hamilton (8-0).

Game 1: Rutgers-Newark 4, St. Norbert 3

The Scarlet Raiders came into the game looking to make up for the two teams' previous matchup in which the Green Knights handed them their first loss of the year. That endeavor started well, as Maddy Haack singled in Josephine Morales and Mariah Rimas-McManus in the bottom of the first to give Rutgers-Newark an early 2-0 lead.

Charly Peter started the game in the pitching circle for the Scarlet Raiders, and she had her best performance of the year so far. She worked through five innings while only allowing three runs off of four hits.

Rutgers-Newark tacked on two more in the third courtesy of Alison Miller and Dana Rene, putting Peter in line for the win. Mia Aquino came in for relief pitching duties and delivered two scoreless frames to seal the narrow victory for the Scarlet Raiders.

Game 2: Hamilton 13, Rutgers-Newark 2

After winning their first game of the day, the Scarlet Raiders ran into an imposing Hamilton squad that had yet to lose a game in 2025. They showed exactly why that was right off the bat, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Rutgers-Newark could not muster a response in the top of the second, and the Continentals went right back to work in the bottom half. They plated ten runners in the frame off of nine hits, nearly batting around twice in the process. Gaby Guerra and Lydia Mirabito each clubbed two hits in the inning, and Nikki Dyche collected an RBI in both of her at-bats.

The Scarlet Raiders scored one run in the third from a Keelin O'Brien RBI single and Josephine Morales brought home another in the fifth, but the gap was too much to bridge and the game ended after 4.5 innings due to the run-ahead rule.
