LEXINGTON, KY - Freshman standout
Massimo Roco was named AVCA Region III Newcomer of the Year on Tuesday. Roco, a 6'4" middle blocker from Old Bridge, New Jersey, has made an immediate impact in his freshman season with the Scarlet Raiders. No stranger to accolades this season, Massimo has also been named Rookie of the Year of the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) and Second Team All-CVC.
During the 2025 season, Roco has been a dominant force at the net, leading the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) in hitting percentage (.411), total blocks (98), and blocks per set (0.92). His prowess extends to the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC), where he ranks first in total blocks (95) and second in blocks per set (0.93). His outstanding performances have earned him the NJAC Rookie of the Week honor three times this season.
Massimo Roco's freshman year achievements not only highlight his individual talent but also signal a promising future for Rutgers-Newark men's volleyball. His continued development and on-court leadership are expected to be central to the team's success in the coming seasons.
