Fedorco Propels Scarlet Raiders over William Paterson

WAYNE, NJ – The Scarlet Raiders battled back from an early three-run deficit to claim an 8–6 road win over William Paterson in NJAC action on Friday. The victory boosts Rutgers-Newark to 14–18 overall and 6–6 in conference play, while William Paterson slips to 17–15 and 2–10 in the NJAC.

Rutgers-Newark got on the board first in the third inning, scoring twice off a balk and an RBI by Matthew Storch. William Paterson quickly flipped the momentum in the bottom of the inning, plating four runs on three hits, including a two-run double by Colin Kubis. The Pioneers tacked on another run in the fourth to take a 5–2 lead.

The Scarlet Raiders began chipping away in the fifth with two home runs, the first coming from Eric Recchia and the second from Michael Weinbel to cut into the Pioneer lead. Another homer by Recchia in the seventh evened the score at 5-5.

In the top of the eighth, with the game still knotted at 5, Daniel Fedorco came through with the decisive swing: a bases-clearing double to left-center that gave the Raiders an 8–5 lead. He advanced to third on a throwing error but was stranded there. William Paterson managed one run in the bottom of the ninth, but Vince Taylor closed the door to earn the win and stay perfect on the season at 4–0.

Rutgers-Newark outhit William Paterson 10–8 and played clean defense, while the Pioneers' two errors proved costly. Eric Recchia led the offense with three hits and a pair of RBIs, and Daniel Fedorco added the clutch three RBIs to take the lead.

The win gives the Scarlet Raiders a valuable NJAC road victory as they continue their push toward the postseason.
