PROFILE OF THE WEEK (April 15, 2009)
NOTES: Four-year letterwinner and three-year starting pitcher who ranks among the best in Scarlet & Black history… ranks second behind classmate Billy Cerruti in career strikeouts with 155… career record of 13-12 with a 5.15 ERA… allowed opponents a .290 batting average… in R-N record book, ranks second in batters faced (913), tied for fourth in wins (13), fifth in innings pitched (204-1/3), fifth in fewest walks allowed per nine innings (3.17), tied for fifth in games started (30), tied for seventh in appearances (44).
SENIOR (2011): Workhorse starter who posted a 4-4 record with a 3.67 ERA and three complete games in 10 starts for the 23-19 Scarlet Raiders who shared the ECAC Metro Championship… earned NJAC Pitcher of the Week (3/6/11)… hurled a team-high 76.0 innings (the second highest single-season total in R-N history) while appearing in 14 games… allowed opponents to hit just .250… struck out 60 while is the fourth highest single-season total in R-N history… capped his career with a 6-strikeout, 4-hit complete game shutout of Old Westbury (5/14/11) in the opening round of the ECAC Metro Championship playoffs… allowing only a first-inning unearned run, pitched 10-2/3 innings while striking out eight and allowing four hits and four runs in a 13-inning, 2-1 loss to Montclair State (4-7/11) in the third round of the NJAC Championship playoffs… opened the season by striking out nine while allowing just two hits and a walk in eight full innings in an 11-0 win over Mount St. Mary (3/1/11)… hurled a complete-game 8-4 win over Rutgers-Camden (4/17/11), striking out eight while yielding six hits and one walk… shut down Rowan (4/30/11) for seven innings, allowing no earned runs while striking out six, walking three and giving up four hits to get the victory in an 8-4 win… went eight innings in a hard-luck 3-2 loss to Richard Stockton (4/11/11), giving up all three runs, nine hits and a walk against two strikeouts.
JUNIOR (2010): Second on the staff with 10 starts and 56-1/3 inning pitched… notched both of his victories in NJAC games… posted a record of 2-5 with a 6.87 ERA… struck out 45 while walking 25… went seven innings for a key 8-3 win over TCNJ (4/24), giving up just one earned run while scattering six hits, walking two and striking out a career-high nine batters… dropped a heart-breaking 2-1 decision to Stevens (3/28), going eight innings and striking out six while yielding two runs on seven hits and three walks… turned in a no-hit scoreless inning of relief in a 16-9 win over LaVerne (3/21)… struck out three, walked none and scattered a dozen hits in eight innings for a 7-3 win over New Jersey City (4/15).
SOPHOMORE (2009): Named second-team All-NJAC and ABCA Mid-Atlantic Region pitcher after a superlative sophomore season… first-team All-NJCBA… NJAC Pitcher of the Week (Week 7)… won his first five starts on his way to a 7-1 record… posted a 4.33 ERA in 52 innings of work in nine starting assignments… struck out 39 while walking just 16… allowed just two home runs… blanked Rutgers-Camden (4/4) for six innings, striking out four, walking one and allowing one single in a 12-0 Raider win… went seven innings for the win in a 5-4 decision over The College of NJ (3/28), giving up four runs on five hits while striking out three and walking three… got a 6-4 win over Cal Lutheran (3/21), going six innings while allowing three runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and three walks… went six inning for a win in a 13-6 decision over Whittier (3/15), giving up two runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and one walk… capped season with a 7-1 win over Baruch (4/30), going three pre-planned innings while allowing two runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and no walks.
FRESHMAN (2008): Appeared in 10 games, getting one starting assignment as a rookie… went 0-2 with an ERA of 8.10 in 20 innings of work… struck out 11 and walked 10… pitched 1-2/3 innings of scoreless relief, giving up two singles while striking out one, in a 6-5 win over Redlands (3/20)… turned in two no-hit, no-run innings of relief in an 18-4 win over John Jay (4/15)… gave up no runs or hits while posting a strikeout in two full innings in an 11-1 win over Staten Island (4/22)… blanked Kean (4/25) on two hits with a strikeout in 1-1/3 innings in a 4-0 loss… blanked Rowan (4/19), yielding two singles, for an inning in a 19-11 loss.
HIGH SCHOOL: Two-year letterwinner at Kearny HS… earned All-Hudson County and All-Watchung Conference honors as a pitcher… team went 34-21 in his two years on varsity… also ran cross country in his sophomore and junior years for the Kardinals… named Honorable Mention All-Hudson County in cross country in 2006.
PERSONAL: Son of Glenn and Deborah Williams… business major… graduated with honors at Kearny High School.
