Shortstop
Patrick Reitemeyer, designated hitter
Anthony Yeswita and first baseman
Matt Lingo had three hits apiece while third baseman
Joe Furnaguera, catcher
Anthony Palladino and leftfielder
Robert Kistner each had two hits as the Scarlet Raiders (12-14) followed up their 20-hit explosion against Baruch on Sunday with another bonanza.
Freshman righthander
Michael Schneider (1-0) was the no-sweat winner, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out two and walking four in five full innings of starting duty.
Ryan Clark,
John Kuder,
Matt Larangera and
Michael Hansen hurled an inning apiece to finish off the decision.
Yeswita drove in three runs with an RBI double in the first and a two-run line-drive homer over the leftfield wall in the third. Reitemeyer singled ahead of Yeswita's double and had an RBI double in front of his home run.
Lingo roped a pair of doubles, including an RBI shot down the leftfielder line which ignited a 3-run fifth inning rally. Palladino had RBI singles in the fifth and during a 3-run sixth inning for the Raiders.
Despite some shaky defense in the first three innings, the Raiders escaped with only two runs allowed because of three inning-ending double plays turned by junior second baseman
Matt Connors and Reitemeyer.
Rutgers-Newark, which won its fourth in a row and its sixth in the last seven, hosts New Jersey City on Thursday and Montclair State on Friday in a pair of New Jersey Athletic Conference games. First pitch is set of 3:30 p.m. for each.
