NEW YORK – Rutgers-Newark split a pair of matches against nationally-ranked D-III opponents in a tri-match, downing Ramapo, 3-0, before falling to NYU, 0-3, in the Coles Athletic Center.

Marcin Midura piled up 26 points while totaling 23 kills, an ace and four assisted blocks in the two matches for the Scarlet Raiders (5-6). Seniors

Grant Metheny each posted 17 kills on the day while freshman setter
Manuel Felipez distributed 68 assists while dumping in five kills on six attacks. Senior libero
Zack Chambers came up with 18 digs.
In the 25-20, 25-22, 25-22 win over Ramapo in the opener, Midura posted a match-high 10 kills while adding an ace and two assisted blocks while Pappas and Metheny added nine kills apiece. Felipez dished out 31 assists to fuel an attack which hit .273. Chambers came up with 11 digs.
Colin McNeil paced the Roadrunners (7-4) with six kills, two solo blocks and three assisted blocks while Joel Castro also notched six kills.
In the tough 28-26, 27-25, 25-22 loss to NYU (9-2) in the nightcap, Midura tied for match honors with 13 kills while getting in on a pair of blocks. Freshman outside hitter
Lorenzo Samin tallied a dozen points with six kills, a pair of aces, two solo blocks and three assisted blocks while Metheny and Pappas added eight kills apiece.
Felipez had 37 assists as the Raiders out-hit NYU, .247 to .190, and totaled nine more kills (42-33) only to lose on crucial points. The Raiders lost two match points in each of the first two games and were tied at 23-23 in the third set, but all of the key points went to NYU.
Taylor Fauntleroy led the Violets with 13 kills, an ace and an assisted block.
Rutgers-Newark visits New Jersey City on Tuesday at 7 p.m. for a non-conference match.
