Box Score

EWING, NJ – Rutgers University-Newark fell to The College of New Jersey, 4-2, in its New Jersey Athletic Conference opener despite a complete-game pitching performance by junior Andrew Nasti.

Nasti scattered 10 hits while striking out three and walking just one Lion in eight full innings, but TCNJ sophomore Evan Edelman and sophomore left-handed reliever Michael Correa teamed to limit the Scarlet Raiders to just five hits.

The Raiders trimmed a 3-run deficit to one in the fifth inning with the help of a TCNJ error.  Junior centerfielder Jason McCluskey rifled a double down the left field line before getting bunted to third by sophomore second baseman Gerry Patrizio.  An infield error allowed McCluskey to score and sophomore shortstop Ryan MacFarlane to reach first base.  After MacFarlane moved to second on a passed ball, senior first baseman Vin Troisi delivered an RBI single to make it 3-2.

Junior designated hitter Michael Murray was the only Raider with two hits.

Lion junior third baseman Mike Murray went three for four with an insurance RBI single in the eighth.  Senior leftfielder Joseph Dispoto also went three for four with a single and a run scored to ignite the game winning rally in the third inning.

Junior shortstop Anthony Cocuzza and junior first baseman Joshua Limon stroked back-to-back RBI doubles in the third to stake TCNJ to a 3-0 lead.

Rutgers-Newark (6-13, NJAC 0-1) hosts the Lions (12-4, NJAC 1-0) in Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium on Friday at 3:30 p.m.   The Raiders host New Jersey City in a league doubleheader at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday before travelling to Yogi Berra Stadium on Sunday for a conference twin bill against Montclair State.
