NEWARK, N.J. (May 1, 2017) – The Rutgers University-Newark baseball team will take on
Rowan University in the Scarlet Raiders' first New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship Tournament game since 2011.

Rutgers-Newark – the fourth seed – will travel to Glassboro to battle the third-seeded Profs. The two teams split a conference doubleheader in mid-April in Glassboro.

The Scarlet Raiders finished the 2017 regular season with nine NJAC wins (9-9), an overall record of 23-13-1 and a .635 winning percentage.

Rutgers-Newark punched its ticket to the tournament Saturday afternoon, topping Montclair State University, 3-1, in the team's regular-season finale. Senior starter
Chas Bohannon – in just his third start this year – went a career-best 8.1 innings, and junior reliever
Luis Rojas picked up his sixth save of the season. Junior catcher
Justin Marks broke a scoreless tie in the eighth with a single, and two batters later, junior third baseman
Brian Boulineau delivered a clutch two-run single to put Rutgers-Newark on top 3-0.

After Tuesday's opener at Rowan, the tournament will move to Jim Hynes Stadium (Kean University) for its completion May 5, 6 and 7.

Regional Rankings: Rutgers-Newark is ranked 12th in the Mid-Atlantic according to a release from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) on April 27. The Scarlet Raiders are one of five NJAC teams in the ranks. TCNJ is No. 3, Rowan is No. 4, Kean is No. 6 and Ramapo is No. 9.

Definitely not average: Rutgers-Newark has six players hitting .300 or better led by junior
Anthony Perconte at .354 and senior
Josh Cote at .343. Perconte leads the Scarlet Raiders with a .478 on-base percentage, and Cote paces the Raiders with a .518 slugging percentage.

Brian Boulineau checks in 33rd in walks per game (.87) and 43rd in total walks (27). Tricarico leads the NJAC in both metrics.
Anthony Perconte is No. 1 in the conference and No. 25 in the nation in stolen bases, and he leads the league and is 33rd in the nation with .62 steals per game.
