Rutgers-Newark Baseball Dominates Saint Elizabeth in 11-2 Victory

NEWARK, NJ - On Tuesday afternoon, Rutgers-Newark baseball (5-5) cruised to an 11-2 win over Saint Elizabeth in a non-conference match-up. Despite an early lead by Saint Elizabeth, the Scarlet Raiders proved to be too much for their opponents, out-hitting them 13-4 in the contest.

Saint Elizabeth struck first, scoring both of their runs in the top of the first inning. However, Rutgers-Newark responded with a dominant offensive performance, beginning with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Raiders then added two more runs in the sixth, one in the seventh, and capped off their scoring with five runs in the eighth to seal the commanding 11-2 victory.

Michael Weinbel continued his offensive surge as he led the charge for Rutgers-Newark at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two runs scored. His consistent hitting helped the Scarlet Raiders build and maintain their offensive momentum throughout the game.

On the mound, freshman Adrian Rojas earned the win with an impressive performance, pitching 5.0 innings, allowing just two hits and two earned runs while striking out eight of the 21 batters he faced. Kennedy Ferguson took the loss for Saint Elizabeth, surrendering three earned runs on five hits in 3.1 innings of work.

With the victory, Rutgers-Newark improved their record while Saint Elizabeth was unable to overcome the deficit.

Up next for Rutgers-Newark is the Russ Matt Central Florida Invitational with games to be played in Davenport and Winter Haven, Florida from March 15-20.
