Middlebury Hitting Too Much for Scarlet Raiders

NEWARK, NJ - In a game that quickly got out of hand, Middlebury College defeated Rutgers-Newark 25-8, showcasing explosive offensive power and a solid pitching performance. The Scarlet Raiders struck first, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. However, Middlebury responded emphatically, pouring on eight runs in the top of the second to take an early lead.

Rutgers-Newark battled back, scoring four runs in the bottom of the second, but that would be its last surge of the game. Middlebury, on the other hand, continued to pour it on, adding another eight runs in the top of the fifth and tallying a total of 17 runs over the next seven innings.

Despite a respectable offensive effort with 12 hits, Rutgers-Newark couldn't match the offensive firepower of the Panthers. Middlebury finished the game with 20 hits and just one defensive error. 

Christian Zebrowski earned the win for Middlebury after 3.0 innings of work, allowing just three hits, one walk, and facing 12 batters. Meanwhile, Rutgers-Newark's Chase Ostrowski took the loss after a tough 1.2 innings, during which he surrendered six hits, eight earned runs, and walked six batters while striking out just two. Paul Recchia went 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Matthew Storch was 2-for-2 with three RBI before he exited the game with an injury.

Rutgers-Newark will look to put this game behind them as they host Rochester tomorrow at Weequahic Park starting at 11:30 a.m.
