DALLAS, PA - Rutgers-Newark competed in the Misericordia Twilight Invitational on Friday. Several Scarlet Raiders had notable performances as both men and women finished sixth at the meet.
Senior
Adam Abushanab set the tone finishing first in the men's 5000 meter with a time of 14:57.93. His time was almost three seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Shareek Prophet and Isiah Marcellus both had a pair of top-ten finishes in the 100m and 200m. Prophet finished the 100m in 8th place with a time of 11.47 and finished the 200m in 7th place with a 23.52 finish. Marcellus took 9th in the 100m with an 11.54 finish and slightly beat out his teammate in the 200m, finishing in 6th place with a 23.52 finish. On the field side,
Zachariah Muyingo had a big day finishing 3rd in both the long jump (6.85m) and triple jump (13.83m).
Fejiro Akiri had a few top-ten finishes on the women's side. She finished 4th in the hammer throw with a distance of 43.88m. Akiri followed it up with a 2nd-placed finish in the shot put (12.10m) and an 8th place finish in the discus (31.28m).
Shanil Auguste also had a pair of top-ten finishes in the field. She finished 4th in the shot put (11.71m) and 10th in the hammer throw (31.56m). On the track
Morgan Mackres finished 7th in the 1500 meter with a time of 5:22.72.
The Scarlet Raiders will be back in action next Friday, April 11th at the Queens College Invitational.
