Scarlet Raiders Pile Up 20 Hits In Win Over Baruch

NEWARK, NJ – Rutgers-Newark erupted for a season-high 20 hits on its way to a 20-9 win over Baruch in Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium.

Freshman Robert Kistner went three for five to pace the assault with one of the Scarlet Raiders' six doubles against the Bearcats (7-12). Rutgers-Newark (11-14) got multiple hits from seven players with senior first baseman Matt Lingo going two for four with a 3-run homer.

Raider head coach Mark Rizzi used 19 position players as well as six pitchers in the runaway. Freshman righthander Tyler Kwiatek (1-0) picked up his first career decision by going the first four innings as Rutgers-Newark powered out to a 13-2 lead. Kwiatek gave up just one earned run on three hits while striking out four and walking two.

Getting two hits apiece for the Raiders were junior second baseman Matt Connors, freshman reserve shortstop Nelson Lopez, freshman catcher Zachary Loys, sophomore rightfielder Chris Ballester and reserve rookie rightfielder Giovanni Schiano.

Junior shortstop Patrick Reitemeyer, freshman reserve catcher Christian Kasa, Lopez, Kistner, Ballester and Schiano posted the Raider doubles.

After Kwiatek left the mound, freshmen Ryan Pascullo, Bryan Sullivan and Casey Buckley as well as sophomore Ryan Clark hurled a complete inning apiece before senior Kevin Apel closed in the ninth.

Rutgers-Newark hosts Alvernia in a non-conference game in the stadium on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
