Princeton Downs Scarlet Raiders In EIVA Play, 3-1

PRINCETON, NJ – Seniors Marcin Midura, Austin Pappas and Grant Metheny posted double-digit points for Rutgers-Newark, but Princeton came away with a 3-1 EIVA win in Dillon Gym.

Midura had 14 points on a team-high 13 kills and a solo block while Pappas chipped in 10 kills, two aces, a solo block and an assisted block for 13.5 points for the Scarlet Raiders (7-7, EIVA 1-5) who lost their fifth straight conference match.  Metheny tallied 11 points on nine kills and a pair of aces against the Tigers (5-4, EIVA 4-2) who completed a sweep of their regular-season series with R-N.

Freshman setter Manuel Felipez registered 41 assists while dumping in two kills on three tries.  Senior libero Zack Chambers had a team-high seven digs while junior middle hitter Brett Pickens tallied seven kills, an ace and an assisted block.  Rookie Lorenzo Samin pounded down four kills on just eight swings.

Princeton got a match-high 16 kills, an ace and six assisted blocks from freshman outside hitter Cody Kessel while senior setter Scott Liljestrom stoked the balanced attack with 45 assists plus two aces.  Freshman outside hitter Will Siroky helped the Tigers dominate the net with two solo blocks and three assisted blocks while adding 11 kills and an ace.  Junior middle blocker Michael Dye added 14 kills and a match-high four aces.

Rutgers-Newark visits Steven on Saturday to take part in a non-conference tri-match.  The Raiders take on SUNY Institute of Technology at 2 p.m. and Stevens at 4.
