NEWARK N.J.- On Senior Day for the Scarlet Raiders, they were unable to secure a victory in a doubleheader against #4 Kean.
Game 1: Rutgers-Newark 1, Kean 10
#4 Kean University controlled the game from the start, defeating Rutgers-Newark 10-1 at Weequahic Park. The Cougars scored early and often, putting up runs in each of the first six innings to steadily build a lead. Home runs from C.J. Tomalavage and John Chiusano powered the offense, while Kean's lineup consistently applied pressure, totaling 13 hits on the afternoon.
Christian Pareja pitched five scoreless innings to pick up the win for Kean, improving his record to 4-0.
Adrian Rojas took the loss for Rutgers-Newark, giving up five earned runs over three innings. The Scarlet Raiders struggled to get anything going offensively, managing just five hits and committing two errors.
Rutgers-Newark's lone bright spot came in the eighth inning when
Eric Recchia delivered an RBI single to prevent the shutout. However, it wasn't enough to overcome Kean's strong pitching and relentless attack at the plate.
Game 2: Rutgers-Newark 5, Kean 15
In the second game of their doubleheader, Rutgers-Newark fell to Kean University, 15–5. In a strange turn of events, the game ended up being played at Jim Hynes Stadium at Kean University at the bottom of the first inning due to some field issues at Weequahic Park. The Cougars' offense was relentless, scoring in six of the nine innings, including a five-run fifth that broke the game open.
Rutgers-Newark managed to keep pace early, tying the game 1–1 in the first on a sacrifice fly by
Matthew Storch. They added runs in the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings, including an RBI single by
Devin Rojas in the fourth. However, defensive struggles plagued the Scarlet Raiders, who committed four errors, leading to unearned runs for Kean.
Connor Ramsey earned the win for Kean, improving to 4–1, while
Vince Taylor took his first loss of the season, dropping to 5–1. Both teams tallied 10 hits, but Kean capitalized on opportunities and Rutgers-Newark's miscues to secure the victory.
