Hall of Fame
Alka Shah comes into the Rutgers-Newark Hall of Fame with outstanding credentials. As a Freshman tennis player, she was voted in the New Jersey Athletic Conference’s Rookie-of-the-Year.
She had a dual meet record of 85 wins and only seven losses and a career record of 105 wins and 14 losses. She was exceptional in both singles and doubles, being undefeated in two seasons in both singles and doubles. She was a four time NJAIAW champion, three times in doubles and one time in singles.
In addition, Alka was team captain for two years and the Star-Ledger Woman Athlete of the Week. She also was the first player in Conference history to be selected All Conference in both singles and doubles.
In her Senior year, she not only received the 1995 Rutgers-Newark Woman Athlete of the Year Award, but also was honored with the 1995 Rutgers-Newark Scholar Athlete award. Since graduation she has obtained a master’s degree from Rutgers-Newark in nursing and is presently a nurse practitioner at St. Michael’s Medical Center in Newark.
