Jim Fredo distinguished himself as one of the finest shortstops that Rutgers-Newark baseball team has ever produced. He was an outstanding fielder with great range and superb arm. He was just as accomplished as a hitter, batting .360 as a freshman and leading Rutgers-Newark in hits and total bases as a sophomore.

He is also one of the few players to ever play in all 34 games as a junior in 1989 and batted .359 as a senior, leading the team in triples. Upon graduation, Jim was Rutgers-Newark’s all-time leader in hits, triples, walks and runs scored.

Jim led Rutgers-Newark to two consecutive NJAC Tournament appearances and led them to their first ever NCAA appearance, falling one game short of making the Division III College World Series.

As a senior, Jim ended his Rutgers-Newark career earning All-American honors.
