Hall of Fame
Ed Kasbarian was the first of eight Rutgers-Newark All American wrestlers. In 1963 he placed 6th at 130 lbs. He lost to the eventual NAIA and NCAA Champion 10-9 with a controversial call at the buzzer.
Ed wrestled at 130 lbs. in 1961, 62 and 63. He was All Metropolitan Conference in each of those years. He returned in 1965 and graduated in 1967 as an accounting major.
After achieving a 10-1 record in 1965, Ed was injured and did not participate in post-season competition. He was Rutgers-Newark team captain in 1963 and 65.
Coach Bob Mizerek regards Ed as one of the top 3 Rutgers-Newark all time wrestlers. His statistics and achievements, however, do not capture the essence of watching one of his matches. While he may be one of our top wrestlers, Ed undoubtedly stands alone as the most exciting.
