Ashley Canty (2012-2016), a native of Pleasantville, NJ, was an exceptional talent for the Rutgers-Newark women's track & field team, recognized for her outstanding field performance. Canty's contributions to the program during her time with the team resulted in numerous accolades. In 2015, she was the NJAC Indoor Shot Put Runner-Up and 2015 Outdoor Discus Champion, winning the event by more than four feet. She went on to earn silver in the discus throw at the ECAC Outdoor Championships. She picked up gold medals in the weight throw and shot put at the 2016 Indoor Championships to be named the 2016 NJAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Year. She capped her career as the 2016 NJAC Outdoor Discus Champion to win back-to-back titles, as she improved her mark by three meters from the year prior, being ranked nationally in the event all year long. At the time of her graduation, Canty held school records in the hammer throw, outdoor shot put, and weight throw.
