Steve Herman distinguished himself as one of the finest baseball players Rutgers-Newark has produced. Steve played four years starting in 1960 and compiled a career batting average of .384. His freshman season produced a batting average of .387 and in 1962 and 1963 he hit .409 and .466 respectively.
Steve was not only an offensive threat at the plate but was a defensive standout as well. He was a top-flight centerfielder and possessed a strong throwing arm cutting down 9 runners on the base paths. During the 1963 season he was Co-Captain of the team and also that year received the team’s Most Valuable Player Award.
Steve now resides in Dix Hills, N.Y., and is co-owner of ValuRx Ltd., a wholesaler of pharmaceuticals and health and beauty aids.
