Willie was a four-year starter for the basketball team at center and forward and was versatile enough to have played all positions. During his senior year, Willie scored over 400 points. Willie combined outstanding defense with a powerful offense and was part of a select group of players who were 1,000-point scorers during their college careers.
Willie excelled in tournament competition as well. During his senior year, Rutgers played in the Eisenhower College Tournament and Willie was one of the five players selected to the Eisenhower College All Tournament Team.
