Donald Parrish was an All-Met and All-New Jersey Athletic Conference point guard who helped young head coach Joe Loughran turn the Rutgers-Newark men’s basketball program into a perennial contender.
As a senior, Parrish led the rugged NJAC in assists, averaging 6.2 per game, as the Scarlet Raiders notched a 13-12 overall record – the first of a string of 10 consecutive winning seasons going into the 2013-14 season. He was named to the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Division III All-Star second team and earned Honorable Mention All-NJAC.
As a junior, he averaged 14.7 points while dishing out 105 assists and making 58 steals to rank third in the 10-team NJAC in each category. He stamped his season with an incredible 30-point outburst at Ramapo.
The hustling floor general also was frequently the defensive stopper for the Scarlet Raiders despite his slender 6-foot-2 frame.
The Newark native amassed 878 points, 364 assists, 334 rebounds, 166 steals and 77 blocked shots while starting in three of his four seasons in Scarlet & Black.
Parrish earned his bachelor of science in criminal justice and sociology in 2005.
He now works as a New Jersey Transit Police Officer.
