Matt Broomall (2012-2016) was a dynamic force for the men's soccer team during his career at Rutgers-Newark. His exceptional play and consistency made him one of the program's top performers. He was instrumental in leading the team through some of its most successful seasons, garnering individual accolades along the way. His rookie campaign was remarkable as he earned NJAC Goalkeeper of the Year, All-NJAC First Team recognition, and Rutgers-Newark Rookie of the Year honors. In his second season, Broomall earned recognition as an All-NJAC honorable mention while leading the squad into the NCAA D3 Championship Tournament. He helped guide the Scarlet Raiders back to the big dance in 2014, where they won the school's first-ever NCAA postseason match. For his phenomenal play that season, he earned his second NJAC Goalkeeper of the Year honor and All-NJAC First Team nod. In his final season, Broomall earned All-NJAC Honorable Mention accolades again as he guided Rutgers-Newark to an ECAC/Metro Championship game win. Playing over 7,800 minutes over the course of 88 matches, Broomall had a goals against average of 1.198, and recorded 342 saves, had a goalkeeper record of 60-27-3 with 30 shutouts. Broomall then lent his talents to the track & field team, where he competed in the indoor and outdoor season in the field events, making him a multi-sport athlete. Away from competition, Broomall participated in the prestigious NCAA Career in Sports Forum, where he brought back a wealth of knowledge.
