David Monisera was the cornerstone shortstop who helped Rutgers-Newark to a an NCAA Tournament berth and an ECAC Championship as a four-year starter.
He teamed with Rutgers-Newark Hall of Famer Jason Celentano to form a middle infield combo which ranked among the best in the nation. The duo turned 42 double plays in 1993 to help the Raiders rank second in Division III in that category.
A two-time All-New Jersey Athletic Conference choice, he posted a career batting average of .358 while finishing his career ranked first in the R-N record book in triples with 12, walks with 88, assists with 422 and double plays with 95. He was second in runs with 127 and stolen bases with 42 while rating third in hits with 157 and runs batted in with 108. Nearly two decades later, he still ranks in the top 10 of each of the above categories.
He earned first team All-NJAC honors as a junior when the Raiders took the ECAC Metro title and second team status as a senior when Rutgers-Newark went 24-16 and earned an NCAA tournament slot. He also was was named to the New Jersey Baseball Coaches Association All-State, All-ECAC Metro and American Baseball Coaches Association All-Region teams in 1993 and 1994.
After receiving his bachelor of science in criminal justice in 1994, Monisera began a career in law enforcement. He is a sergeant in his 15th year of service in the New Jersey State Patrol.
The Wayne resident keeps a hand in sports by coaching his sons in little league baseball and football.
