A four-year starter for the Scarlet Raider men's soccer team, Benitez played in 80 matches over the course of his career, scoring nine goals and tallying 13 assists which puts him in the top-10 of that category.
A two-time all-conference performer – first-team All-New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) in 2009, second-team in 2010 – Benitez was part of the resurgence of the men's soccer program as his teams won nearly 50 matches and reached the ECAC postseason tournament in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
Benitez also earned honorable mention all-conference distinction in 2008, becoming the first Rutgers-Newark men's soccer player ever to be honored on three separate all-conference teams, also earning All-Region honors in that 2008 season.
